Eye Candy Isaac

The A/W 2010 Reiss campaign has just been released featuring models Isaac Carew and Natasa Vojnovic. I have to admit that the best bit is watching Isaac in his wet t-shirt, but it also dawned on me that I missed an opportunity when doing fashion photography in London. I remember spotting Issac on ModelMayhem (a fashion networking website) during January 2009 and gave myself a choice of 2 male models for a vampy photoshoot. I picked the other model who was still great but hasn't turned out to be the prolific model that Isaac is now becoming. He's modelled for Vogue Homme Japan, Dazed & Confused, Topman and many Fashion Week catwalks. Totally missed my chance to photograph/perve damn it!
Now I thought I'd treat you to some pictures you can drewl over!

IFB Weekly Roundup

I've just realized that the wonderful Independent Fashion Bloggers website has included my Seventies post in the LINKS À LA MODE: IFB WEEKLY ROUNDUP.

Click here to have a look at the list which I'll need to check out myself. It's one of my favourite posts I've done so I'm happy lots of people will be checking it out from Independent Fashion Bloggers. I also love that they included my picture (second from the left) as the styling and the model look so pretty!

A bit of Grace

Ever since I watched The September Issue, I became a fan of American Vogue's Creative Director, Grace Coddington. She is not only very down-to-earth, but she is a creative GENIUS! So I'm very happy to hear that I can get another little piece of Grace in the near future as she is starting to pen her memoir!
The book is being written with Jay Fielden, who also collaborated with her on the coffee table book "Grace: 30 Years of Fashion at Vogue", however the price tag of over £700 stopped me from buying it! I'm hoping the new autobiography will be a small fraction of the cost!

Grace's autobiography will cover her childhood in Wales; her days of modeling during London's swinging sixties era and working at both British and American Vogue. She tells WWD "I'm hoping it's going to be very rich in fashion history. It's more than just about me."
I'm really excited about this book as it sounds like I'll get a really good insight into the fashion industry, coming from one of the top industry professionals.

Favourite New Item

Yesterday I went to my favourite shop H&M to find myself a maxi skirt. At only £15 it was a proper bargain. I could actually wear it everyday! It's so elegant and should even keep my legs warm in winter.

Seventies Scrapbook

One of my mum's friends has kindly lent me some scrapbooks filled with magazine cuttings she collected back in the seventies. It's really fun looking at them all and comparing all the trends back then to those of this Autumn/Winter. As the styles of the seventies are making a comeback I thought I would share with you some of the cuttings that struck me as being relevant to today's fashion.

Capes and the camel shade are bang-on this A/W
Layering is the key!

Faux fur is big again this year. I'm still searching for the perfect fur coat.
Maroon is one of the colours to look out for and can be found in Topshop & Urban Outfitters.

Take a styling tip from this dashing man and drape your coat over your shoulders.
Alexa Chung has been doing this recently.
Tailored, high-waisted shorts & trousers are as chic as they were back in 1974.

I would like to say a special thank you to Judith Staley for lending me her fabulous scrapbooks. I think I'll be photocopying some of the looks and sticking them in my own scrapbook!

Edinburgh Street Fashion

Today I finally got round to doing some street fashion photography with my best friend Katz (her blog is Shades of Grey). Town was really crowded due to the Fringe Festival so there were a few people about that caught our eye. Enjoy!

What do you think of these outfits?

Holiday Style!

I still have a few days left, however I feel that my 2 weeks off work are quickly coming to an end. I haven't had this much fun in a long time as I've seen all my closest friends from all parts of my life; the friends I made while living in London; my housemates I lived with in Cumbria and then my photography course mates from university. Lots of fun and although it's not been the hottest Summer of all time - not even close - I still wore some cheerful outfits.

Me & Kate in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh
Photo taken by my photography mate Mags in York
Katz & me in my garden before the Fringe opening
Me & Victoria at Jacques Townhouse, London
I don't know how I'll cope going back to work after all these adventures! I certainly won't enjoy putting my hospital care assistant uniform back on!

Fearne Cotton Fashion Crush

One of my style icons is Fearne Cotton so I've been dying to dedicate a post to her enviable fashion sense. Her style is eclectic and mixes high-street items with both vintage and designer. She believes that "fashion is really powerful and lets people know what you're about and what you believe in."

Fearne really admires Chloe Sevigny's style as she "wears what she wants and doesn't care." She also likes looking at old books of Debbie Harry for inspiration. I think you can see both of these influences in her personal style.

As I'm sure you'll know, Fearne designs a clothing line for Very. Her inspiration for each line can often come from people on the street and she'll write down notes if she spots an outfit she really likes. She also tears out pictures from magazines which are put into scrapbooks.

Below is a day-time look and night-time look which Fearne could wear if I had the chance to style her!
Animal and bow print top £30 from Topshop
Turn up leather shorts £100 from ASOS by Urban Code
Locket necklace £14 from Urban Outfitters
Red brogues £62 from Office
Gabriel bag £750 by PPQ
Lucia Sunglasses £130 from Urban Outfitters by RetroSuperFuture

Pearl collar trim dress £49 from Miss Selfridge
Leather bow watch £26 from Urban Outfitters
Studded high-heels by Christian Louboutin
Cut out flower cuff £24 from Urban Outfitters
Margaret bag £450 by Mulberry

I think I might make this styling feature a regular thing. It involves a lot of online shopping!

Going Gaga for Vanity Fair

On my list of September issues to buy is Vanity Fair. The fabulous Lady Gaga has been photographed by genius Nick Knight which is the perfect collaboration. Here is a video which proves how well Gaga can model (is there anything she can't do?) plus it'll make you swoon over the beautiful couture dresses. I love the styling of the first look in particular and notice how the final dress, by Aramani Privé, has smoke billowing out from underneath.

I hope you enjoyed that clip as much as I do!

Jacques Townhouse

This week I took a trip down to London to visit my friends as it's been a year since I moved away. During my visits I always make sure I go to the best events, whether it's going to a Lady Gaga concert or London Fashion Weekend. This time around I had a very beautiful and unique experience at Jacques Townhouse. The event is being held over two weeks and is the perfect girls night.

For the event I was joined by my friend Victoria who had arrived straight from  work (she is a make-up artist, hair stylist & creator of Victoria's Cup Cakes). Upon arrival, we were greeted with a very warm welcome by the staff and they gave us a map for the various delightful rooms. We then sat down in the "Forrest of Dreams" where we drank my favourite drink of all time, Jacques cider, and ate a couple of very yummy cupcakes.

After a very long chat we realized the time was flying by, so we made our way to the Dressing Room. This is where a stylist dressed us up in vintage clothing and gave us matching outfits of pale pink. We were then ready for our mini photoshoot which I thought was the perfect way to end the evening.

Thank you Jacques for a fabulous evening at your soirée. There were so many fun activities to choose from and such great attention to detail with the beautiful decorations. I felt like I had stepped inside a Tim Walker picture!
